Pleeeeeas stop posting all these Anonymous posts with no identity, please everyone who can, give yourself a name!!! This is driving me absolutely nuts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is constant confusion when there are sometimes the same person adding to their previous post or others with answers, but I cannot tell what is what because they all say Nobody/Anonymous (nobody)… For crying out loud! And when I want to reply to a specific person… who?? It doesn’t have to be your real name. Just give yourself a name!

Heh – did anybody notice who posted this?  (Sorry – couldn’t resist! :)

There is a simple solution.  Disallow Anonymous, and don’t promote by providing this easy posting method.  I haven’t bothered to look at any anonymous posts so don’t know if they add to the site usefully or not.  Looking mostly for PIC stuff but didn’t see much. Happy New Year jj2

Yep, I’ve noticed at least lately that many anonymous posts are just normal FreeRTOS users, both asking good questions and answering some. I wonder if disallowing Anon would stop some good posts (people who think it protects them any better to remain anonymous). And no, there is no need to remove the "easy posting method". After all, the method is not somehow only for anon posts. Simply disallowing Anon posts would be sufficient. Is it possible? I’ve never run one of these forums.

It is possible to disallow anonymous posts, its one of the forum options.  My policy has always been to try and be as open as possible, not requesting information before allowing a download, etc.  so my preference is not to disable the anonymous option.  That said people can always use nick names to hide their identity should they so which – but requiring people to obtain a username could also prevent the lazy from providing what might otherwise be a worthwhile contribution. One thing that would facilitate reading the thread however would be for users to reply to the correct post rather than at the top level – so you get an indented thread of responses rather than it being jumbled up. I tend to read posts as emails, rather than visit the forum, so read the responses in the order in which they are posted.  It is a shame you cannot also reply via email and in so doing easily quote the text to which you are responding. Regards.

Agreed, there are many ways that people can generate more readable form. It requires education, self discipline, and forum features. Another thing I never liked about the features is no way to pre-format (pasting code), and quote others. If they gave a good way to quote, there could be a switch (link) to quickly expand quotes so they don’t get in the way when I’m just quickly reading the message.

I’m glad that this thread is here because it’s a convenient place to announce that a previous problem is apparently fixed concerning Sourceforge login. The problem used to be that if I bookmarked the forum, I couldn’t count on the feature that is supposed to keep me logged into sourceforge. I was needing to link to "my.sourceforge.net" first to get automatically logged on. I can now open this directly: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=382005 and I am already logged in.
